The filing deadline for interested candidates is 4 p.m. Feb. 13.
In Milan, incumbent Mary Mehringer, who was a write-in candidate four years ago, is running for re-election.
Mehringer, who just finished her first four-year term, said the experience had been positive and informative.
"I've learned the workings of our schools and the depth of the operation," she said. "I really feel our schools are something we can be very proud of."
Milan board member Dennis Albers, who also ran four years ago as a write-in candidate, could not be reached to learn if he was seeking re-election.
Saline Board of Education President Lisa Slawson, who was elected to her first four-year term in 2004, announced earlier this month her intent to seek a second term.
"I feel like I've learned so much, especially in the last year with all the MASB training," she said. "I want to bring that experience to the community and our students."
Trustee Kim Van Hoek, however, is not running for re-election, leaving one seat on the Saline board uncontested by an incumbent.
"It's time for me to move on," she said. "It was an interesting experience, but it was a traumatic time."
The terms on the two school boards run from July 1 to June 30, 2012, with the election taking place May 6.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, residents of the district and registered to vote.
A candidate needs between 40 and 100 signatures on a petition before filing with the Washtenaw County clerk.
District residents interested in running for their school board may pick up petitions at district offices or the County Clerk's office.
In Milan, applications are available at the central office at the high school.
Debbie Hogan, secretary to the superintendent, suggested potential candidates call ahead before picking up applications at 439-5050.
In Saline, petitions are available in the financial office on the second-floor of Union School.
Saline and Milan board members elected in May will take their seats at the same time new superintendents assume each districts' reins.
