Whether your goal in 2008 is to see your cholesterol dip or to see those skinny jeans fit, there are no excuses in Saline.

With numerous gyms offering classes and a variety of fitness equipment at a range of fees, there's really a regime to fit every body.

At the newest exercise facility in Saline, Snap Fitness in the Sauk Trail Shopping Center, the doors are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Members use an electronic key card to get in outside regular business hours, where a manager is on site.

Online individualized workouts, nutrition plans and fitness advice is also available to members and a free fitness plan is offered. There are no membership contracts and the cardio and exercise equipment is plentiful and new.

At Curves, women exercise with other women in an encouraging atmosphere.

At Temple Fitness Solutions, professionals are on hand to design specific personal fitness regimes. Saline's Jazzercise studio is dedicated to fitness classes at all levels.

A new Powerhouse Gym is set to open at The Oaks on Michigan Avenue offering equipment and classes.

At Perfect Balance, close to downtown, all the fitness equipment is available, plus an impressive variety of classes are offered, including Brazilian jiu jitsu and boot camp. It's also the home to OnStage Connection, where performing arts classes are under way for dancers, actors and vocalists of all age.

For those who would like to take advantage of Saline's best fitness deal, check out the miles of paths and walkways around the city. All of Saline's parks are open through the winter months and the parking lots are well groomed regularly by the Saline Department of Public Works.

The Saline Recreation Center offers residents of the Saline Area School District discounted rates on memberships, classes and programs. Instructors have eight fitness suggestions for 2008:

•Sign up for HealthMedia, a free online program for residents. It's just like having your own personal health coach. Visit my.healthmedia.com. Enter the access code "HealthySaline".

•Middle school and high schoolers, come hang out at the recreation center for pickup basketball, get in shape in the weight room take a kickboxing class.

•Families with young children can spend time swimming in the leisure pool; it's warm, below 2 feet deep, and there's a tot slide, as well as a basketball hoop for older children.

•Saline Recreation Center pools have walk-in ramps, which are perfect for physical therapy patients, disabled people and those who just don't like climbing down pool ladders. There's also a family changing room right on the pool deck.

•Pick Up the Pace Saline, known as PUPS, offers a walking map of Saline to find your favorite route or explore a park.

•Co-workers can join a league for dodgeball, volleyball or baggo, a bean bag toss.

•Parents can put their children younger than five in two play groups from 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays in the gym and from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays in the pool. The service is free for members and $4 for non-members.

•Sign up for a fitness class, from traditional aerobics to spinning, pilates, yoga, kickboxing, water aerobics, personal training, boot camp, core body and dance classes.
