The Hornets wound up having a crazy day, said assistant coach Lindsey Hemovich, who was filling in for unavailable head coach Launie Aben, that saw Saline perform one team member short in the second and third rounds of three, but nonetheless show improvement on their season-opening performance the week before.
"They always pull it together," Hemovich said. "They know they only have a minute on the floor and they gave it everything they had. We couldn't ask for more.
"The first week we were able to get some of the jitters out. Now they know what to expect and what the other teams are going to be like. There was definitely improvement."
Saline scored a 129 in the first round and then received incomplete scores in the other two rounds. But Hemovich said that the "feedback" from the judges will be helpful nonetheless.
"We're going to take that to our next practice and work on it, and hopefully we'll see a better score next time," she said.
Saline will next participate in the Bedford Invitational Saturday.
