Girlfriends can enjoy tonight's Ladies' Night Out sponsored by the Downtown Merchants' Association. Shops and restaurants will offer specials and give-aways from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in downtown Saline. Scheduling a girls' night out is just not that easy anymore.
With family responsibilities, traveling spouses, job demands, longstanding appointments and organization meetings crowding the calendar of over-scheduled women, making time to join girlfriends for an evening of fun is not always a priority.
Still, all the juggling is absolutely worthwhile, if not entirely therapeutic and necessary, according to a group of women who will again gather at Ladies' Night Out from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in downtown Saline.
"The whole downtown is lit up with a great energy," said Jennifer Butcko of Saline, who has gathered during the event during the last few events, sponsored by the Saline Downtown Merchants' Association. "We stroll in and out of shops, check out the freebies, stop for a drink and a snack, and start over again."
Butcko recognizes the popularity of the event and is this year collaborating with Paul Geragosian, owner of Brecon Grille, in displaying her line of Silpada jewelry at the pub.
Sisters Alicia and Jessica Ping have joined Butcko and other girlfriends at past Ladies' Night Out events and plan to head downtown again Thursday.
"We always have a really great time and are pleased to support our local merchants as much as possible," said Alicia Ping, a Saline City Council member.
"I like to shop and dine where I live and work," said Susan Niethammer, a Realtor. "There are some fun stores and great restaurants for a town the size of Saline."
At Morrow Steiner Designs on North Ann Arbor Street, a Mary Kay consultant will provide tips and a raffle drawing.
At Mac's restaurant, women will receive a gift bag. At Maureen's Flowers, patrons will leave with a colorful orchid boutonniere to pin on their coats.
Just down the street at Beanstalks, curious shoppers can sneak in for a peek before the play cafÈ is open for business and receive a pink carnation.
"It's a Sneak Pink event," said owner April Scarlett.
Shops and restaurants on Michigan Avenue, and North and South Ann Arbor streets will participate.
