Appearing with the local group will be Denver-based the Grant Gordy Quartet. The quartet features Gordy on guitar, Adam Galblum on fiddle, Ian Hutchison on bass and Dominick Leslie on mandolin. They play new acoustic music, or progressive stringband music, and perform mostly original tunes written by Gordy.
Gordy has been playing the guitar for 10 years, and also sings and plays mandolin and several other instruments. His styles range from bluegrass to western swing to folk rock to jazz. He has an interest in fusing seemingly disparate genres in his writing and performance, and says he's always looking for new musical challenges.
Opening the program will be Saline's seventh- and eighth-grade fiddle club members, some of whom are the newest members of Fiddlers ReStrung this next season. Saline Area Schools sponsors and supports Fiddlers ReStrung, a group of high school students who play and dance to traditional folk, Celtic and bluegrass music.
The Fiddlers ReStrung mission is to preserve and perform American fiddle music.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. at Saline Middle School, 7190 Maple Road. Reserved seating tickets are $15 for adults, and $10 for students and seniors.
