Not everyone past middle age elderly
Advertisement
I was horrified to see the headline in the Jan. 31 Saline Reporter referring to a 63-year-old man as elderly. It could have something to do with the fact that I myself am 62.
I looked up the word elderly and it said "... past middle age" and I will concede that 63 is probably past most people's middle age.
Still, with people living longer and feeling and looking much younger than in the past, I don't think the word elderly is appropriate.
What are you going to call people in their 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond?

Compromise made for a win-win situation
As a family actively involved with Varsity Blues and Saline Area Players for decades, we wish to commend the Saline school board for its recent action in rescinding policies and rate increases which had made use of Saline school facilities in 2007 prohibitively expensive for such groups and other similar community organizations.
Leo Babcock's efforts in organizing a concerted effort by these organizations was also invaluable.
Last, but perhaps most importantly, we wish to recognize Interim Superintendent Scot Graden's willingness and ability to listen to the concerns of these community groups, to then structure a financial compromise that both the groups and the school system can live with, and successfully recommending his proposal for action by the school board, resolving yet another difficult situation he inherited.
This seems like another example of Scot's teambuilding and collaboration, further evidencing the complete package that Scot brings to the community's identified desired qualities for the new superintendent.
