Thursday, Feb. 21

Saturday, Feb. 23

Indoor Soccer Clinic will be offered by Saline Community Education. The clinic is for beginner, intermediate and advanced players. Players should wear sneakers and shin guards. St. Paul United Church of Christ will hold a benefit concert featuring The Doowop's Quartet. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert is at 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and younger. The event is a benefit for Habitat for Humanity.

Monday, Feb. 25

Tuesday, Feb. 26

Essays are due for the Knights of Columbus essay contest. Students are asked to write 300 to 600 words about "What America Means to me." Send the essay to Brian Woodruff, 6369 Edgewood Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108 or fax 930-5630. There will be a $200 prize for the first-place essay in each age group and a $100 prize for the second best essay in each age group.

The Saline Youth Council will hold a community forum 7 p.m. at the City Council Chambers. At the forum, the Youth Council will make a presentation on its survey findings regarding a youth center, and address concerns and provide an in-depth look on some of the plans that have been discussed. Pub Nite, the annual fund-raiser for the Saline Brecon Friendship Guild, will be held at the United Auto Workers Hall at Woodland and Maple roads. The event features a chicken or vegetarian lasagna dinner, music and an auction. There will be a cash bar. Reservations are $16 for adults and may be made by calling 429-8821. All proceeds support the cultural exchanges between Saline and its sister city, Brecon Wales.

Saturday, March 1

Saline Area Social Services is asking for the community's help to make the upcoming Easter holiday a little brighter for some area residents. The agency is in need of 30 family-holiday basket sponsors this year. Each donation needs to come in a decorated shopping bag with handles or a small box. It should include meat, fruit and Easter goodies such as candy, egg dye, Easter grass sealed in its original bag and a dessert. The remainder of the meal, including eggs, will be supplemented from the agency's existing supplies. Each meal needs to feed four people. "Addiction and Spirituality" will be presented 7:30 to 9 p.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center Auditorium, 5305 Elliott Drive, in Ypsilanti. Admission is free and open to the public. The presentation will explore spiritual needs, life choices and the spirituality of the 12 steps; and discuss how the 12 steps can help anyone, whether recovering from chemical dependency or not.

"Grief and Loss in Addiction" will be presented from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center Auditorium, 5305 Elliott Drive, in Ypsilanti. Admission is free and open to the public. The presentation will provide a basic study of how addiction produces grief and loss for the individual and the family.

Women's Eating Disorders Group for women ages 16 to 24 is starting in Ann Arbor at Life's Way Family Counseling and Education. The University of Michigan Center for the Child and the Family offers social skills groups for elementary and middle school youth who have difficulty making or sustaining friendships. Social skill groups are designed to help children learn skills that are important in establishing relationships and maintaining positive social interactions with peers.
