RUTH E. AKANS
Saline
Ruth E. Akans, 80, of Saline died Feb. 12, 2008, at the Arbor Hospice Residence in Ann Arbor. She was born April 18, 1927, in Detroit, the daughter of Chester and Leona E. (Dunn) Baker.
Mrs. Akans had been a Saline resident since 1969. On July 12, 1947, she married Robert C. Akans in Belleville, and he preceded her in death Feb. 22, 2007.
Mrs. Akans was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Saline.
Survivors include her four children, Robert E. (Kathleen) Akans of Johnstown, Pa., James C. (Cynthia) Akans of Gaylord, Nancy D. (Martin) Puscas of Novi and Cheryl D. (Paul) Whitfield of Saline.
Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, Kevin, Chris, Aaron, Sarah, and Ethan Akans, Chase and Lauren Conrad, and Kristi, Ryan and Jason Whitfield; one great-grandson, Braedon Akans; and one brother, C. Edwin Baker.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
A funeral was held Sunday at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline. The Rev. James Tuttle officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Saline or Arbor Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
MARY R. TOTH
Saline
Mary R. Toth, 94, of Saline died Feb. 12, 2008, at the Evangelical Home of Saline surrounded by her loving family. She was born Sept. 15, 1913, in Mason City, Iowa, to Michael and Mary (Gersha) Kalovits.
She married Davis Toth on June 29, 1935, living in Melvindale and Dearborn before moving to Saline in 1947.
Mrs. Toth had been a member of Saline First United Methodist Church since 1948 and drove a school bus for the Saline School District for more than 20 years before retiring in 1978. She loved to travel, was an avid bowler for many years and also loved dancing.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Charlotte (Clark) Fisher of Temperance; son, Davis (Jennifer) Toth of Saline; four grand-daughters, Lori (Andrew) Magrum of Ida, Linda (Michael) Little of Temperance, Lisa Fisher of Toledo, Ohio, and Kelly (Kenneth) Tecmire of Montclova, Ohio; 12 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bethany, Marc, Ruth, Nathan, Joseph, Elizabeth, Isaac and Rosanna Magrum, and Bradley Fisher and Morgan and Madeline Tecmire; her sister, Elizabeth Sakatch of Quincey, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Davis, Feb. 9, 1995; an infant son; three brothers; and two sisters.

A memorial service was held Monday at Saline First United Methodist Church. The Rev. James Tuttle officiated.

Ruth T. Scheel, 92, of Saline died Feb. 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Saline. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements were entrusted to the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline. Call 429-9760.
JOAN HALL
Clinton
Joan Carol Hall, 66, of Clinton died Feb. 15, 2008, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor. She was born April 24, 1941, in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Arthur Johann and Ada Marie (Ashley) Prong.
On Aug. 15, 1987, she was married to Malone Hall and he preceded her in death Oct. 5, 2002.
Mrs. Hall worked as a hostess at Howard Johnson's in Ann Arbor, was head cashier at Busch's Valuland in Saline, worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Saline and TCF Bank as an assistant manager. Her employment before retiring in November 2007 was at Capitol Cleaners in Saline.
Mrs. Hall was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bridgewater, where she was a Sunday school superintendent for many years. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and attending Hillbilly Days in Pikeville, Ky., every spring.
Mrs. Hall especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Mrs. Hall is survived by two sons, Brian Rice and Carl (Sabrina) Hall of Knoxville, Tenn; four daughters, Jeanette Hall of Ypsilanti, Bobbie Jo (Bob) Trombley of Clinton, Becky (Mark) Ruhl of Manitou Beach and Rachel (Tony) Smith of Westland; three brothers, Bill (Mary) Prong of Clinton, Bob Prong of Virginia Beach, Va., and Keith Prong of Tecumseh; one sister, Betty Schuch of Posen; and 11 grandchildren, Heather, Yvonne, Anna, Andrew, Missy, Kyle, Jessie, Kristin, Travis, Brenden and Jakob.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son, Ronnie; and one grandson, Robbie.
Visitation was held Monday and Tuesday at the Clinton chapel of Handler Funeral Homes. The funeral was held Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bridgewater. The Rev. Kathleen Meyers officiated. Burial was at the church cemetery in Bridgewater.
