The Hornets posted their highest team score of the season in back-to-back home dual meets, defeating Plymouth 129.1-113 Feb. 12 and then Tecumseh 132.325-128.255 at home last Monday night.
"The girls have been working hard and it's definitely paying off," said acting head coach Julie Warmbrodt. "We're peaking at the right time."
In between the two home meets, Saline also downed Dearborn Edsel Ford 128.4-117 in a road dual meet Feb. 14, giving the Hornets three straight wins since a setback at Canton.
The surge has come despite the disruption from previous head coach Paul Van Slambrouck's dismissal and Warmbrodt's promotion to acting head coach Jan. 30.
"We have a great group of girls and great leadership," Warmbrodt said. "We had a rough patch in midseason, but they've handled it really well and now everything looks good."
Senior Paige Cederna, won first-place all-around honors in the win over Tecumseh with a score of 34.875. Teammate Kristy Richart took second with a total of 34.275.
Cederna tied with fellow teammate and senior Rachel Cole for the meet's third-best score on the vault, recording an 8.4, while Richart scored with a fourth-place 8.35 and Ann O'Connell posted a 7.65.
Richart led the way with a first-place 8.575 on the uneven bars, followed by Cederna's runner-up 8.275, Kara Williams's 7.55, and Cole's 6.4.
The highest Saline score of the night came from Cederna on the balance beam, where she received a 9.2. Richart's 8.75 and Cole's 8.45 gave Saline a sweep of the top three spots in the event, while Williams scored an 7.85, O'Connell a 6.55, Diana Rus a 4.75, and Heather Stankovic a 4.5.
Saline swept the top four places in the floor exercise, with Cederna (9.0) taking first, Richart (8.6) second, Cole (8.5) third and Williams (8.375) fourth.
The decisive win over the Indians and the Hornets breaking the 130-point mark for the first time this season may have given Saline momentum as the Hornets headed into Wednesday's South Central Gymnastics League meet at Parma-Western.
The Hornets were looking for their third consecutive SCGL title.
"Our goal is to win the league," Warmbrodt said, "but we also want to have our highest team score yet. I'd like to have no falls in any event."
The Hornets didn't have many in drilling Edsel Ford as Cederna (33.35) and Richart (32.5) again went 1-2 in the all-around followed by Cole at 30.4 and Jessie Rogers at 27.5.
Saline's top-four event finishers at Dearborn included Cederna and Richart (8.4, tie for first) and Cole (8.25, third) in the vault; Cederna (8.10, first), Richart (7.95, second) and Williams (7.4, third) on the bars; Cederna (8.4, second) and Rogers (fourth, 8.10) on the beam; and Williams (8.7, second); and Cole (8.6, third) on the floor.
Against Plymouth, it was Richart who took first in the all-around with a score of 33.875 while Cederna's total of 33.55 was good for second and Cole's 29.125 placed her fourth.
Top-four performances included Richart (8.3, third) and Cole (8.275, fourth) in the vault; Richart (8.375, first) and Cederna (7.9, third) on the bars; Cederna and Richart (8.6, tie for second) and Rogers (7.85, third) on the beam; and Cederna (8.9, first), Richart (8.6, second), Williams (8.475, third) and Cole (8.35, fourth) on the floor.
