For all but two members of the Saline gymnastics team, a roller-coaster 2007-2008 season came to a close at last Saturday's Regionals at Plymouth.

But acting head coach Julie Warmbrodt said the Hornets finished the year on a high note as both senior Paige Cederna and sophomore Kristy Richart qualified for the state finals and Saline's team score of 126.075 was close to what she'd been hoping for.
"It went really well," she said. "We wanted to re-establish ourselves and I think we did."
Warmbrodt was happy with two particular developments from the meet, the first being Richart's and Cederna's state qualification.
With a top-eight score in a given event necessary to qualify to compete in that event at state, Cederna advanced with an eighth-place score of 8.7 on the balance beam. The score earned Cederna her fourth trip to the state meet, having qualified in at least one event in all three previous seasons of her Saline career.
Richart placed sixth in both the uneven bars and the beam, with scores of 8.6 and 8.85. It will be the sophomore's first trip to state.
"It's an honor to have two girls from our team advance to state," Warmbrodt said. "It's also nice to have two girls advance because now it's two of them in the gym and the coaching's not just one-on-one.
"It'll also be a good experience for Kristy as a sophomore. She's going to learn a lot."
Warmbrodt also said that the Hornets' having edged out league rival Tecumseh in the team standings (after the Indians downed Saline in a recent dual meet) was another pick-me-up.
"We were all pretty happy with that," she said.
Not everything went exactly according to plan for Saline. Warmbrodt admitted that "nerves" may have played a role in a few scores the Hornets might have hoped to have made higher.
"I still think there's room for improvement," Warmbrodt said. "For some of our girls that was their first time at Regionals and they were a little nervous. Next time, hopefully, that won't be a problem and they'll be able to stay more calm and focused."
The meet was the final one for Saline seniors Rachel Cole, Kara Williams, and Heather Stankovic and the last time for Cederna to perform alongside her teammates. Warmbrodt said they rose to the occasion, as they have throughout the season.
"Our seniors stepped it up. They had been there before," she said. "This program is going to miss all of them greatly. There are going to be some big shoes to fill."
