Saline Salutes set April 18

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce will join with the entire Saline community in recognizing Citizen of the Year Betsy Marl, Lifetime Achievement honoree Taylor Jacobsen and George A. Anderson Vision award winner Scot Graden April 18 at the Saline Salutes ceremony.

The event will be held at Saline High School in the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center. The Saline Youth Council also will present the Youth of the Year Award to Andrew Schantz.
The event is open to the public and reservations are now being taken.
Marl is a first-grade teacher at Saline Area Schools who is being recognized for her involvement in numerous community activities, including bringing food and comfort to the families of sick children at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital's Ronald McDonald House, helping the elderly and home-bound through Intentional Caring Ministry, volunteering her time at Saline craft shows and Varsity Blues, and serving on various committees for Saline Area Schools.
Jacobsen, a former art teacher, Art Club adviser, and Ski Club adviser at Saline High School, is being acknowledged for his years of dedicated service with Saline Area Schools, Saline Area Historical Society, Bixby Marionette Trust Committee and other community endeavors.
Graden is being honored for his positive stewardship and facilitation as chairman of the Cultural, Arts, Recreation, Enrichment, and Senior Citizens, or CARES, Millage Advisory Council for Saline Area Schools, which oversees funding for recreation programs and facilities intended to enhance the community. From 2000 to present, the council has, in cooperation with the Board of Education, awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to various community organizations.
Schantz, a junior at Saline High School, was chosen for his volunteer and community service efforts, including Saline Youth Council chairman; Destination Imagination Camp teacher; Counting on Math Tutor, Family; Career and Community Leader of America Chapter Executive Council; FCCLA Michigan ExecutiveCouncil; National Honor Society Executive Council; Link Crew; and Michigan Teenage Republicans.
In addition, government officials and civic leaders are special invitees and will be given a salute of thanks for their dedicated commitment to the community.
The public is invited to join the Saline chamber in congratulating the honorees. Cost for the event is $20 per person for reservations made by April 11 and includes a reception with entertainment and appetizers before the awards program.
Attendees should enter the Performing Arts Center entrance east of the high school for the event.
