Drunken Driving

A 36-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was arrested shortly before 8 p.m. March 10 after he crashed his vehicle into a truck at a stoplight at Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street.

The Saline police department received multiple calls complaining of a man driving erratically along Michigan Avenue. An officer began following the driver at Michigan Avenue and Harris Street. The man's vehicle crossed the double-yellow line and jerked back across into the lane of traffic.

The driver finally stopped after his vehicle slammed into the back of a truck at a red light at Ann Arbor Street. There were no injuries, according to police reports.

The officer reported smelling intoxicants when he was 3 feet from the man's vehicle. The driver's eyes were red, watery and sleepy-looking, according to reports.

A preliminary breath test revealed the man's blood-alcohol level to be 0.16 percent, which is more than the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent.

The man was arrested and taken to the Saline Police Department. This was the his sixth arrest for driving under the influence since 1992, according to the report.

Larceny

Saline police were called to the 500 block of Echo Street March 9 when a 41-year-old Saline man discovered his headlight was missing. The incident occurred between 5 p.m. March 8 and 1 p.m. March 9, according to police reports.

Police found the driver's side assemblies were taken. The bumper was hanging down and police speculated that the thieves tried to steal that, as well. No suspects have been identified.

Compiled by newspaper intern Kevin Korpal based on reports filed with the Saline Police Department.
