A permit request that if granted would have allowed a developer to build a wastewater treatment plant in Saline Township has been put on hold at the developer's request, according to the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.

Biltmore Holdings LLC, a Troy-based developer interested in constructing an expansive residential neighborhood on more than 1,000 acres in Saline Township, asked that its permit request be put on hold in a letter last week from its attorney, Alan Greene, according to DEQ officials.
Township Supervisor Jim Marion said did not know why the developer had put the permit request on hold.
The DEQ expected to reach a decision on the permit request possibly by the end of April. A well-attended public hearing on the request was held Feb. 22 at Saline Township Hall. Almost 20 people spoke out against the plan, arguing that the development would overwhelm the township and have inconsequential economic benefit.
The DEQ would not say how long the permit approval process might be stalled.
"We don't usually put them on hold for too long," said Asad Quraishi, an environmental engineer with the DEQ. "A few weeks, a few months, then we usually ask the applicant to withdraw the application."
