After the Hornets finished in second, only a handful of points behind first-place Northville, Boze said he was more than happy with what he saw.
"We had some excellent performances," he said. "We were solid across the board."
The Hornets' highest finishes both occurred in relays as both the 4x200 and 4x800 teams finished second.
Chris King, Sam Burchyett, Branden Post, and Drew Jurgenson combined to run a school indoor record 1:35.68 in the 4x200. In the 4x800, Kyle Zill, Blake Johnson, Brian Hernandez and Russ Simon ran 8:25.28 for the runner-up slot.
In individual track events, the Hornets excelled in both sprint and distance events.
Saline took half of the top six spots in the 3200, with Tommy Hunt (9:54.56), Brian Conn (9:56) and freshman Joe Lipa (10:16) finishing second, fourth and sixth, respectively. In the 1600, Johnson's 4:37.4 was good for third, while Hernandez took sixth in 4:43.91. Zill finished fifth in the 800 in 2:09.92.
Burchyett likewise took a top-five finish with a time of 7.40 in the 60-meter dash. Post finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56.
Three different Hornets scored in field events, as well. Drew Jurgenson put up a personal-best 21-7 1/2 in the long jump to finish third. In the shot put, senior Joey Everett threw 48-1 3/4 for fifth, one spot ahead of Quinn Dawson's 47-1 3/4.
"Drew did really well and our throwers did a great job for us," Boze said.
Boze said the team's balance in their first full meet of the season was an excellent sign for the upcoming year.
"The most promising aspect is how well-rounded we were," he said. "Sprints, distance, hurdles ... there's no one area where we're particularly weak or particularly strong."
The Saline girls had an impressive meet of their own March 21, at the Wolverine Invitational at the University of Michigan.
Competing against 14 other teams, the 4x800 relay of Meagan Creutz, Lindsey Cummings, Kate Carter and Alex Leptich equaled their school indoor record time of 9:36.2 from the week before and finished in first.
The Hornets took home two other first-place finishes as Leptich won the 1600 in 5:16.8 and Carter (2:22.9) and Creutz (2:23.7) finished 1-2 in the 800.
Even when Saline wasn't winning events, they were setting more school indoor records. The 4x200 relay of Corrie Castro, Taylor Franz, Mary Rzepka, and Kim Miller-Tolbert combined to run 1:49.6, good for a record and second place. Castro's time of 8.05 in the 60-meter dash was also good for a new record, as well as third place.
Other individual finishes in the top five included Lauren Zakrajsek (63.0, fifth) in the 400 and Miller-Tolbert (15-9, fourth) and Rzepka (15-8, fifth) in the long jump.
