The candidates are vying for two four-year seats. The lone incumbent in the field is Board President Lisa Slawson, who is seeking her second four-year term. Kim Van Hoek, who ran unopposed in 2005 to fill a three-year seat, is not seeking reelection.
Challengers running in the May 6 election include Dan Krus, Chuck Lesch, Mark Morsfield and John Mullins.
Krus, 49, is a technology consultant and adjunct faculty member at Washtenaw Community College. He and his wife, Linda, of 26 years have three children in the district. He has run for school board twice before, in 2004 and 2007.
Lesch, 46, is a preclinical scientist who worked for Pfizer and has lived in Saline for 17 years. He and his wife, Jean, of 25 years have two daughters. He has a bachelor's degree in biology and a master's in science education.
Morsfield, 48, who has lived in Saline for 15 years, is the chief financial officer at a life sciences company in Ann Arbor. He and his wife, Valerie, of 22 years have three children, two of whom are at the high school.
Mullins, 49, ran for school board four years ago. He and his wife, Tanny, have three sons, two of whom are attending the University of Michigan and one who is a freshman at the high school. Mullins runs a real estate agency with his wife. He is currently barred from school property following charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
Slawson, 44, has lived in Saline for 10 years. She and her husband, Greg, have two children in the district. Currently a stay-at-home mom, she has a law degree from Indiana University.
The forum will afford the candidates the opportunity to present their backgrounds, interests and concerns, and to field questions from the audience.
Each candidate will be allowed to make a brief introduction and then will be asked to address questions from the audience submitted on index cards. Candidates will be allotted three minutes for closing comments.
The forum will be held in the Saline Middle School media center at 7 p.m. April 10.
The Saline Reporter is sponsoring the forum, which will be moderated by Staff Writer Sue G. Collins. Anyone with questions or issues they would like the candidates to address is invited to e-mail their questions to editor@salinereporter.com.
