With spring break having started the day before, the Saline track teams headed to last Saturday's Huron River Relays without their full compliment of athletes.

But even that couldn't keep the Hornets down as both teams finished in the top half of their field, the boys fifth out of 26 teams and the girls ninth of 18.
"We had several of our top kids gone," said girls' head coach Mike Smith, "so overall, we were pleased with how things went considering the circumstances."
One Hornet very much in attendance was sophomore Corrie Castro, who continued her early season hot streak by running a school indoor record time of 7.4 in the 60-meter dash, which was good for second place.
The Saline girls added eight other top 10 finishes at the meet. The sprint medley relay team of Lauren Zakrajsek, Taylor Franz, Mary Rzepka and Kate Carter placed third in 4:21.6. Castro, Franz, Rzepka, and Kim Miller-Tolbert combined for a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter relay in 1:49.8.
In the distance medley relay, Hayley Warsinske, Karen Gallardo, Lexie Mathis, and Regan Johnston ran 14:57 and finished eighth. The 3200-meter relay team of Carter, Mathis, Warsinske and Melanie Conn placed 10th in 10:44.
The Hornets were just as strong in individual competition. Miller-Tolbert's jump of 15 feet 7 inches was good for fifth in the long jump, while Sarah Overcashier tied for sixth in the high jump by clearing 4 feet 4 inches.
Conn finished sixth in the 3200 meters in 12:41. Miller-Tolbert's time of 10.85 in the 60-meter hurdles was good for ninth.
The Saline boys had a number of solid performances, as well.
Most notably, Drew Jurgenson cleared 21 feet in the long jump for the second straight meet, finishing second with a jump of 21 feet 6 1/4 inches.
Seniors Joey Everett and Branden Post also claimed top-five finishes, Everett placing third in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet 2 1/2 inches and Post fifth in the 60-meter hurdles in 8:56.
The Hornets will resume their track season at the Ypsilanti Invitational April 14.
