Bradshaw is an advocate in the fields of family systems, co-dependency and addictions and recovery. He has influenced millions of lives through his best-selling books, sold-out workshops and seminars.
Bradshaw is perhaps best known for his widely acclaimed PBS TV series, "Bradshaw on the Family," and other topics such as "Homecoming," "Creating Love," "Eating Disorder," "Family Secrets" and many more.
"We are thrilled to have a speaker of such high profile at the Saline conference," Denise Bertin-Epp, the president and chief nursing officer of Brighton Hospital and co-chairwoman of SCRUD, said in a news release. "His appearance will enlighten and affirm the need for understanding the impact of drug and alcohol use in our community."
The conference, titled "Understanding Addictions: A Workshop for Families and the Community," is a one-day community event for students, parents, educators and health professionals from across the county.
It will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 10 at Saline High School, and offers free admission to the community. Lunch will be available on site.
Assisting Bradshaw in the delivery of the message at the conference will be local and national professionals on alcohol and drug addiction, community leaders and recovering addicts.
In addition, there will be many unique, interactive learning opportunities presented by addiction specialists and a panel discussion by local teens.
The topics to be covered will include parenting strategies for talking to children about drugs and alcohol, Addictions 101, family involvement and health issues associated with use and abuse. More information can be found at the Web site SCRUD.org.
"This conference is not just for families affected by addiction. Parents, students over the age of 8 and interested citizens who attend will become better equipped to confront an issue that has a potential to affect us all," Bertin-Epp said.
The conference is funded by a grant to the Saline Coalition to Reduce Underage Drinking from the Judy Ivan Community Foundation at St. Joseph Mercy Saline Hospital.
The coalition is an organization formed to offer support to parents, students of all ages and the community seeking to learn more about underage drinking and its impact and to discuss strategies to prevent underage drinking in Saline.
