The Brophy sisters, Lisa and Kayla, are not twins but their pitching performances in the opening games of the Saline varsity softball season nearly were.

Junior Lisa Brophy launched the season with a 2-hit 8-0 shutout against Lumen Christi, recording 11 strikeouts and giving up only one walk. Lisa Brophy had a nohitter heading into the seventh before Lumen Christi strung together their two hits.
In the nightcap, her freshman sister led the Hornets to a 9-0 win in a one-hit performance in which she struck out 11 and walked two.
"I liked what I saw today," said coach Dawn Whitford. "They needed to come out and make a statement."
Lisa Brophy said she felt confident in her season debut.
"It felt good tonight," she said. "It was good to see no errors. I have a lot of confidence in our defense."
While the unhittable Brophy sisters made the statement on the mound, the Hornets made their point at the plate as well, relying on a mix of power and small ball.
In the fourth inning of the first game, with Saline already up 5-0, Katie Chapman parked a triple down the left-field line and promptly scored on a pass ball moments later. In the second game, she pulled off an in-the-park homerun with a deep belt to center and registered four RBIs.
Lumen Christi's defense could not solve Saline's well-placed bunts nor keep the runners off the basepaths.
"This is what we needed to do," said Whitford. "We manufactured runs. We put the pressure on their defense."
Freshman Emily Ouellete went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases in the first game. Megan Townsend and Alissa Robison each went 2-for-4, registering two runs.
