Doubles sweep powers Hornets to 7-1 win over ranked opponent

The Saline varsity girls' tennis remains undefeated after taking out Utica Eisenhower 7-1 Tuesday.

The doubles teams, which have been formidable lately, swept Utica, a top ten team in Division I.
The first doubles team of Sarah Cowen and Meghan Geiger won 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, while third team of Meranda Vogt and Shanna Cooper won in straight sets 6-3, 6-0.
The Hornets also pulled out some tight victories. The second team of Kate Woolliscroft and Sarah Sidlow came out on top 6-2, 6-7, 7-5 and the fourth team of Dayani Waas and Julie Blackhall eked out a 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 win.
"They played really well," said coach Andy BeDell. "We won all the close matches. That's mental toughness."
The fifth team of Alex Van Aaschen and Catherine Bernard also won, 6-7, 6-2, 7-5.
In singles play, Bethany French and Casey Baxter both won in straight sets by identical scores of 6-3, 6-2. Kelli Tice won 6-4, 7-6, 7-5.
The Hornets are currently ranked fifth in the state in Division I.
They faced Lincoln on the road Wednesday and welcome Brighton at home on Thursday before hosting the Saline Invitational on Saturday.
