In support of the local men and women committed to defending the country, the Saline Recreation Center will offer free passes for active military personnel home on leave.

"The Saline community has approximately 25 residents who are active military," said Saline Recreation Center Director Carla Scruggs. "We feel working out, swimming, shooting hoops and having fun is essential to their well-being, and we are pleased to offer free admission."
Saline City Council voted unanimously earlier this month to approve the fee waiver for troops on leave or furlough for up to 30 days.
Saline Recreation Center member Brad Kramer wrote a letter to council supporting the move.
"As a parent of a combat-wounded Iraq war veteran, I witnessed first-hand what our community's support means to them when they return home," he wrote. "It is because of their service to our county we are able to do what we wish and enjoy on a daily basis."
Kramer said he has talked with a number of families in the area who have sons and daughters serving, and he salutes Scruggs and her staff for the supportive action.
Residents of the Saline Area School District who are active members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves or National Guard are welcome. Military identification and authorized leave or furlough orders can be presented at the Saline Recreation Center front desk for fee waiver for daily admission.
"It's a small token of gratitude that we can offer the men and women who serve our country," Scruggs said.
In addition, the center will offer a discounted three-month membership for college students, ages 18 through 22, home for summer break. The membership is $75 for residents and $95 for non-residents. The fee is good May 1 through Sept. 1.
