For about the past five years, Brecon Village has hosted an hour of musical entertainment and dancing for Prom Night, featuring the jazz band.
Speaking to a large turnout of residents and guests who watched the concert, Nate Lampman, musical director at Saline, said it was one of the band's first outings of the year and the musicians appreciated being able to run through their tunes.
"It's always a great time," he said of their annual performances at Brecon Village.
A different theme is used for the prom each year. MariAnne LaPrell, life enrichment director at Brecon Village, said her department does all of the set up and decorating.
"We try to come up with a different theme each time," she said. "This year, we chose 'Presidential Prom' to celebrate 2008 as an election year. Last year, we used a safari theme. The year before, it was Mardi Gras.
"Most all of the residents attend. And it's always a lot of fun."
Joining the residents and guests for the jazz concert were members of the Family Career Community Leaders of America from Saline High School. The group's president, Mina Onuma, said it's one of their community service projects.
"It's always fun when a music group comes here and we get to dance and talk with the seniors," she said.
A variety of jazz band soloists played for the Brecon residents, including Meagan Creutz, whose saxophone solo highlighted a rendition of "Every Sunrise is a Bonus." The evening ended with a performance of "Hot Java Jump."
