Saline Area Schools Spring Arts Festival will be held at Saline High School. It will feature art from students in kindergarten through 12th grades.

Friday, May 9

"Planting and Pruning" is the title of the talk Dan Riddle will give 6:30 p.m. at Christ Our King Lutheran Church, 3255 Waterworks Road, in Saline as part of a gardening series. Riddle, owner of Lodi Farms Nursery in Ann Arbor, will present a hands-on, interactive pruning and planting workshop to kick off the Friday night free gardening series. Saturday, May 10

Boating safety is offered by Saline Community Education. The class is for children ages 12 and older. The class will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Liberty School. The fee is $15. Call 429-8020 to reserve a spot.

"Driver's Education Part II" will be offered by Saline Community Education. Students who have completed "Driver's Education Part I" within 90 days of this class and are 15 years and 9 months old before the first day of class may enroll in this three-day class. Tuesday, May 13

The Saline High School Jazz Band will perform 7:30 p.m. at the Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center. The concert also will feature the Paul Keller Jazz Ensemble.

A cooperative of military veterans organizations is offering veterans a free breakfast as a way to honor them for their service and sacrifice. Veterans must show membership cards. Family and friends are welcome and will receive free coffee or tea, but breakfast is free for veteran organization members only. Breakfast will be served both days from 8 to 11 a.m. at City Limits Diner and Pancake House, 220 W. Michigan Ave. The menu will include two eggs, meat, homefries, toast or pancakes, and coffee or tea. Gratuity for servers is not included.

ACT Prep Workshop will be offered by Saline Community Education. The workshop will prepare students to take the ACT test by showing them the format and types of questions to expect. The workshop runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Liberty School. The fee is $60. Register by calling 429-8020.

Parent ACT Seminar will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Saline High School media center. It's a free seminar open to parents to help them interpret the results they have received from their child's most recent ACT test and inform parents of the ACT scores students need for certain schools.

Poppy Days will be held in the city of Saline. The American Legion Auxiliary will sell poppies on the sidewalks and at local businesses as a fundraiser. Contributions are used to help hospitalized and disabled veterans in need of rehabilitation and financial assistance.

"Lunch & Learn" Luncheon will be presented 11:30 a.m. by Saline Area Chamber of Commerce at Brecon Village in Saline. Mark H. Clevey, a spokesman and advocate for small business in Michigan, will be the featured speaker. The luncheon is sponsored by DiggyPOD. The Washtenaw County Solid Waste Program is holding a regional environmental clean-up day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Saline Department of Works. It will be a drop-off that will accept recyclable materials, appliances, household hazard waste, furniture, tires and electronic equipment. Household garbage will not be accepted. City of Saline Patrick J. Little Public Works facility is located at 1234 Tefft Court.

Saline Stone & Thistle Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m. to noon. Members sell perennials that are zoned for Southeast Michigan, including wildflowers, ferns, herbs, houseplants and worm castings. Master gardeners are available for information and assistance.
