The Hornets defeated visiting Ann Arbor Huron 193-224 to even their 2007 dual-meet record at 4-4.
Sarah Hoffman was match medalist with a nine-hole score of 42, including a birdie 4 on No. 14. Bethany French followed with a 46, Katharine Stewart added a 51 and Emily Hysong a 54 to round out the Saline scoring and give the Hornets the 31-stroke win.
One positive to come from the meet, head coach Betsy French said, was that Stewart's recent switch to a different putter paid dividends after the senior endured some recent struggles on the greens.
"It appears to be a step in the right direction," French said. "If Katharine can have some time to practice with her new stick, her scores will drop dramatically as she continues to strike the ball very well."
The win over Huron put Saline back in the win column after a 184-201 loss to Chelsea April 30 at Reddeman Farms Golf Course. Hoffman and French each shot a team-low 46, with Stewart finishing with a 49 and Marla Moore with 60 for the Hornets' fourth score.
The Saline JV defeated the Bulldogs 246-260 playing on Reddeman's back nine.
The next day, Saline competed in the 18-hole Ann Arbor Pioneer Invitational at the University of Michigan Golf Course, placing 16th out of 20 teams with a score of 403. Hoffman led the way for the Hornets once again, shooting an 88. The other three Saline scorers were Bethany French with a 95, Stewart with a 97 and Carly Schultz with a 123.
Highlights for the Hornets included birdie 3's for both Hoffman and Bethany French and a par for fifth player Chelsea Harding, all on hole No. 6, and a chip-in birdie for French on the par-3 No. 12.
"Our team was disappointed in their finish today," Betsy French said, "but welcomed the opportunity to play the U of M course, which is hosting the Women's NCAA Regional Championship May 10. The course is being set up for championship play, so the rough was deep and thick, and allowed the girls to see what play at the collegiate level might be like."
French was likewise encouraged by the continued success off the tee of Hoffman and Stewart.
"Both Sarah and Katharine hit the ball well," she said, "and it is only a matter of time until their scoring catches up with their hitting."
Saline hosted a Southeastern Conference meet Wednesday at Stonebridge and is back on the course Friday at the Onsted Invitational.
