With the biggest tournament of the season arriving Thursday, the Saline girls' golf team has picked a good time to play their best golf of the season.

Last Friday the Hornets took first place in a field of 16 teams at the Onsted Invitational, held at Devil's Lake Golf Course. Saline's score of 374 just edged fellow Southeastern Conference team Tecumseh's 370.
Sarah Hoffman led Saline by shooting a tournament-low 81. Hoffman finished with only a single birdie, but accumulated 10 pars to earn medalist honors.
Teammate Bethany French recorded a pair of birdies, shot a 41 over the front nine, and was only two spots back in the tournament field with a third-place 88. Katharine Stewart made it three top-10 finishes for Saline with a 95. Emily Hysong provided Saline's fourth score with a 110, with Leen Khatib two strokes behind her at 112.
Head coach Betsy French said afterward that with the all-important regional tournament and state berth on the line on Thursday, the timing of the Hornet victory could not have been better.
"Winning this tournament and placing three individuals in the top 10 is a big confidence boost for the team," she said. "The girls know that they left a lot of shots out on the course and can shoot the lower scores needed if the team is to qualify for state. They're working hard and hopefully are going to peak at the right time."
Saline's confidence received another boost Monday when the Hornets downed a solid, state-ranked Ann Arbor Greenhills squad 197-204 in a dual meet held on Saline's home course of Stonebridge.
Hoffman again led the Hornets with a 46. Stewart finished two strokes back at 48, followed by a 50 from Bethany French. Hysong rounded out the Saline scoring, with a 53.
Saline took on state Division 2 No. 1 Dexter in a Tuesday dual meet before turning toward Friday's Regionals at Giant Oak Golf Course in Temperance. The Hornets will be one of 15 teams vying for a top-three finish and a ticket to the state finals June 1.
Betsy French believes her team will need to shoot under 370 to survive a loaded field that includes local rivals Ann Arbor Pioneer and Ann Arbor Huron and familiar SEC foes Bedford and Lincoln.
