Keystone Community Church on Waterworks Road is hosting a weekly Cruise Night, a free informal car show with music and concessions.
Owners are invited to bring their cars, motorcycles and trucks to a sort of "show and tell" from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in the church parking lot.
The first Cruise Night was held last week and 16 well-polished vehicles pulled in, popped their hoods and revved engines for a small crowd of fans. Steve Sinclair brought his 1980 Chevy Corvette and convinced his friend, Joe Considine, to drive his white 1995 Corvette over for the evening. Also in the lot were a Catalina, a Corvair, a 1948 Frazer Manhattan and a slew of shiny cycles and antique cars.
"We are exploring what is called, 'tailgate ministry,' where we go outside the church into the community to reach new members and show it's not just about coming to church, but more about relationships," said Kevin Walker, a representative from the group at the church that put together "Keystone Cars."
Steve Sinclair, also a member of the church, said Cruise Night has been a dream of his for more than a year.
"It's not really what you'd expect to find in a church parking lot, is it?" he said.
The church also has a men's motorcycle club for members and friends to ride together and enjoy camaraderie.
Car, truck and motorcycle owners are invited to drive over any Tuesday evening through Labor Day to Cruise Night. Prior registration is not necessary, and specification sheets for the vehicle's windshield are available upon check-in. There is no charge for the event.
Concessions will be available, sold by the Keystone youth group and will include pizza, hot dogs, soda, chips and candy. The group is raising funds for its annual mission trip later this summer.
