The Bee Cool Saline 2007 Scavenger Hunt will kick off between 9 a.m. and noon Saturday at the historic church on South Ann Arbor and East Henry streets. The event is open to the public.
The scavenger hunt, which is free, will continue through Aug. 11. It's designed to encourage residents to explore more of Saline.
Bee Cool spots can be found across Saline in stores, schools, restaurants and parks, and even local "celebrities" may be hiding a bee to find.
"I think kids like to find things the challenge of discovery and I'm planning some surprises along the way to fuel that," said Terri Sibo-Koenig, chairwoman of the business development association in Saline.
A "cool bee" is an image of a bee to display in the Bee Cool spot. The bee can be 3D, big, small, fat, thin, realistic or silly.
Sibo-Koenig came up with the idea. She said she has a strong interest in community development and hopes Bee Cool will "glue the community together."
Her goal with the campaign is to give visitors of nearby communities a fun activity to do and to make Saline a destination excursion during the summer.
Children will be able to pick up a Bee Cool Keeper Log and may decorate them with arts and crafts.
Following the kick off, a Bee Cool weekly activity will be held at the church every Saturday through Aug. 11.
