The 1991 Saline High School graduate now lives and works in the Twin Cities, Minn., and is the communications director for the Hawthorne Area Community Council, a nonprofit organization working with diverse populations in North Minnesota.
"The importance of community service was a key lesson I learned while living in Saline," he said.
The former National Honor Society member still keeps in touch with his former English and social science teachers, though many are now retired. While attending Saline High School, he felt great pride participating in after-school community service activities and remembers his life in Saline fondly.
"Much of who I am today is deeply tied to Saline," he said.
His written work alludes to the overall essence he feels is the character and strength of Saline, its "interest in both the local and universal, and the traditional and the modern."
The lesson of community service, along with his passion for learning, have further influenced his volunteer activities. In his spare time, Worra volunteers as a literary editor for TripMasterMonkey.com, "a cheeky news magazine for the Asia-savvy," and Bakka Magazine, an eclectic selection of Laotian and American writings.
In his book, "On the Other Side of the Eye" published by Sam's Dot Publishing, Worra is concerned with themes of perspective and the search for truth. Readers will roam secret wars to the edge of the human soul and the universe. They will explore science, myth and global history in a unique journey of poetry and language.
Worra's work has been featured in Asia, Australia, Europe and across North America. "On the Other Side of the Eye" will be released in August, and after a brief tour in Australia, he will be traveling across the United States giving readings in the community. He plans to be in the Saline area around Thanksgiving time.
