Saline should celebrate Fourth of July holiday

Why doesn't Saline have a July 4th celebration? I'd rather spend the day honoring the birthday of our great country than looking at cars I can't afford or "art" I don't like.

Students, staff raise money for relay team
We would like to recognize the staff and students of Saline High School for donating $2,000 to the Dexter Relay for Life. Relay for Life is an event designed to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Fighting cancer is extremely important to our family. We recently participated in the relay with a team of elementary teachers from Dexter. Our family and the Dexter community appreciate the kind and generous donations from the students and staff members of Saline High School.

Library president should be lauded
By now I hope you all have seen the newly-expanded library. It's beautiful and functional and doubled in size. In time, the collection will double, as well.
I'm seeing lots of kids and teenagers browsing the shelves, and using the computers and study rooms. There is a drive-up book drop box on the north side of the building and many great new features.
Led by Library Director Leslee Neithammer, the staff did an excellent job managing the construction project over a period of about two years. But if you are happy with the expanded library, there is another person you should know about.
More than anyone, the library board's president, Bill Roach, made this happen. He had the vision. He saw the path to success and he led the effort. The community owes him a dept of gratitude for his leadership.

Pancake Supper helps
support help agency
Saline Area Social Services and Boy Scout Troop 446 would like to recognize all the community members who participated in its Pancake Supper benefit. We will be able to stock the pantry shelves at Saline Area Social Services with the money raised, as well as put food on the shelves.
Corporate sponsors included Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 9, Mark Grieshaber of Edward Jones in Saline, Larry Skiles of Edward Jones in Ann Arbor, Stonebridge Golf Course, Richard Schneider of Farm Bureau Insurance of Ypsilanti, Dr. Arnett and a Tri-County Sportsmen's League, who provided use of its building.
Local merchants let us put up fliers in their windows to advertise our fundraiser, while Scouts and friends provided help. Without them, we wouldn't have had such a great evening.
I hope everyone had a great time.

Enthusiasm high at Sportscars to Saline
On behalf of the Saline Downtown Merchants' Association, I wish to recognize everyone who participated in the third annual Sportscars to Saline Car Show that was held June 22. While attendance was down, the enthusiasm was not and we had a very nice afternoon.
Among those who contributed were the city of Saline, the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, Bill's Barber Shop, SCTN and Steven Stump, Benny's Bakery and the many others who contributed raffle prizes and support.
In addition, merchants and restaurants welcomed our participants and guests with outstanding Saline hospitality.
The Saline Downtown Merchants' Association continues to bring quality community events to the downtown district throughout the year. In addition to helping with the ongoing Summer Music Series, our next event is the Summerfest Craft Show Aug. 8 and 9. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
