With the exception of a handful of races, Saline swimmers took first place in almost all events. Their size also meant several top-six finishes, and Milan couldn't keep up with the numbers.
Several solid swims for Saline came in the medley relays. The "A" and "B" teams for the boys' 8-and-younger division took first and second place, while the same "A" and "B" girls' age groups took first and third.
The remaining younger Saline age groups all took first and third, respectively, in their age divisions for the medley relay, with several more scorers in lower places.
The Saline swimmers who contributed to first-place finishes in a medley relay race included Grant Santos, Adam Whitton, Michael MacGillibray, Alex Lampman, Olivia Harrison, Madeline Robison, Cassandra Anderson, Rachel Ward, Layeth Sweidan, Alex Calder, Dakota Hurbis, Max Duong, Gillian Gatecliff, Alisha Ungkuldee, Allison Eppinga, Alexandra Arenas, Michael Bundas, Simon Rucinski, Brennan Corcoran, Ethan Johnson, Kate Roger, Sophie Brightman, Melyssa Aben, Samantha Winchester, Lucas Allen, Geoffrey Duong, Louie Remenapp, Austin Deal, Caitlin Sisken, Cristina Czyrka, Emily Lau, Nikki Flynn, Kassia Zalewski, Allison Littlejohn, Sam Crichton and Liz Willis.
Milan had one unattested win in the boys' 15-18 age group for the medley, which went to Tyler DiGesare, Anthony Comstock, Tyler Fisher and Simon Mueller.
The 25- and 50-yard free events were another high point for Saline, which often took five to seven places in each race.
Some Stingrays who placed first in these events included Santiago Arenas, Sydney Kermath, Theodore Eppings, Gillian Gatecliff, Michael Bundas, Samantha Winchester, Emily Farsakian, Liz Willis and Michael MacGillivray.
The other events all followed the same pattern. Several Stingrays put forth great efforts to earn Saline points from several places. The younger groups, in particular, dominated the scoring and had strong swims with much improvement.
One of the Stingray coaches, Megan Crosbie, was impressed with the team's efforts, and highlighted how proud she and the staff are of the improvements they have seen so far this season.
The team has had several great meets this season, and is growing into a great building and feeding program for the high school team. The work put in at the younger levels, as mentioned by head varsity swim coach Todd Brunty, is the reason the older levels swim so competitively.
"I'm so proud of this team," Crosbie said. "So many swimmers have shown so much improvement. It's a great thing to see."
